Speechify

Listening to Learn: How Speechify Supports Accessible Study

This presentation explores how Speechify helps students access academic reading through audio. By converting PDFs, articles, lecture notes, and webpages into natural-sounding speech, Speechify allows students to listen to course materials instead of relying solely on traditional reading.
This can be particularly valuable for students who experience barriers with large volumes of text, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, visual impairments, or other learning differences.
The session highlights how flexible listening, adjustable speeds, and cross-device access enable students to engage with content in ways that suit their learning needs, supporting comprehension, independence, and more manageable study across reading-heavy courses.

The Learning Support Centre

Beyond Tools: Integrating Assistive Technology with Tutoring and Coaching

Assistive technology can be transformative for neurodivergent and disabled learners and professionals but tools alone rarely lead to lasting change. This session explores how combining digital assistive technologies such as mind-mapping, planning and reading / writing support tools with targeted tutoring, coaching and mentoring creates far more effective outcomes.
Drawing on the Learning Support Centre’s integrated approach, the presentation will show how human support helps individuals understand when, why and how to use technology in real educational and workplace contexts. Through practical examples, attendees will see how guided implementation builds confidence, independence and sustainable strategies for people in school, university and employment.
Ideal for SEN specialists, needs assessors and other disability professionals, this talk highlights why the most effective support goes beyond tools, combining technology with skilled human guidance to unlock potential.
